2015 10 03 - Niagara Hike 3: Wiley Rd to Ball's Falls (Postponed from May) "Sue's Trail"

This hike will take us from the Wiley Rd Parking area to Ball's Falls.  

Sue has already done this leg, and let us know it is absolutely beautiful--not really one to run, but a lovely hike.  

Make sure to carry sufficient water and food!

Hi folks,
We regret having to cancel the planned hike for this Saturday due to the risk of severe thunderstorm activity. We are advised that it can be quite dangerous especially on the high ground of the trail, and there also is a risk of falling branches we are among the trees. Sorry about this but I think in general, we should plan to cancel or postpone hikes when severe weather is expected.

Please acknowledge receiving this email asap, as if I don't hear from you, I will have to try other means to ensure you get this message.

In order to make up the hike, I would like to suggest we consider October the 3rd. Given that our October Hike is on the 24th, we would have 3 weeks between the September hike and October 3rd, and 3 weeks till the 24th.

Thanks for sending. Confirming for Karen, myself, Joanne and Sue (who has already completed this section).

Cancelling is the right decision. High winds and thunderstorms are pretty much the two most dangerous things we're likely to encounter on our hikes. If there is a high probability of these weather events, it is best not to start out. (Plus they make for unpleasant hiking).

Unfortunately, we will typically have to make that call a day in advance in order to make sure we can communicate with everyone.

We also may encounter these unexpectedly, in which case, understanding best-practices for staying safe will be helpful. I've done some reading on this and will collect some links to share.
